La Geo Barents, nave di ricerca e salvataggio di Medici Senza Frontiere, ha annuncia la conclusione delle sue operazioni nel Mediterraneo centrale, dopo aver soccorso oltre 12.675 persone in più di 190 interventi di salvataggio da giugno 2021. La decisione arriva a causa di leggi che la stessa Ong definisce “irrazionali e senza senso”, come il decreto Piantedosi di gennaio 2023.Decreto che oggi è stato sostituito da un provvedimento che complica ancor più la vita alle Ong: il decreto Flussi. Recentemente approvato in Senato, introduce, tra le altre misure, periodi di fermo più lunghi per le stesse, facilitando la confisca delle imbarcazioni di soccorso e degli aerei civili.
The Geo Barents, search and rescue ship of Doctors Without Borders, has announced the end of its operations in the central Mediterranean after rescuing more than 12,675 people in more than 190 rescue operations since June 2021. The decision comes because of laws that the NGO itself calls “irrational and nonsensical,” such as the Piantedosi Decree of January 2023.This decree was replaced today by a measure that makes life even more complicated for NGOs: the Flows Decree. Recently approved in the Senate, it introduces, among other measures, longer detention periods for them, facilitating the confiscation of rescue boats and civilian aircraft.
